My second critical reflection: The ideology of Racism

What is the motivation for a person to be racist? A person will join a common group that shares the same racial ideology as them in our society. Racism disrupts the social norms of culture around the world. Racism creates a social structure within our society that defines the superiority and inferiority of a particular race in the world The ideology of racism is defined on the physical and the psycholgical characteristics of a particular race in our culture. Most Western people do not realise that their values create a social conflict within their community, society or country. Racism disrupts the political and the cultural institutions of a country. The history of racism could be dated back to the era of colonisation around the world by the European countries (Étienne Balibar, 1998).

  1. I think that most of the racism today is subconscious. Yes, a minority of people will gather and act on their preconceived ideas but when you walk into a country bar and see a person of African decent jamming to Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood, you do react. Your preconceive subconscious vision of the world sees a problem but really it's just according to our Western values, like you said, that is makes people uncomfortable. In the end, I wanted to comment on the fact that you chose to talk about motivations to be racist, when I believe that racism is, for most, not a question of wanting to be discriminatory, but more of a state (to be corrected).

  2. I completely agree with you regarding that racism is a fact with some people. I disagree with you because it is a person decision to be racist or prejudice toward particular group of people. I can't stand been around people who are racist in our society!!!!!

  3. But that's like saying you hate everyone in our society. Because in one way or another we are all "victims" or vehicles or the hegemonious racism no? I think it's a choice maybe to act on this subconscious state that forms what you call racists. Anyway, I agree that they are frustrating and the world would be much better without them.
