My second critical reflection: The ideology of Racism

What is the motivation for a person to be racist? A person will join a common group that shares the same racial ideology as them in our society. Racism disrupts the social norms of culture around the world.  Racism creates a social structure within our society that defines the superiority and inferiority of a particular race in the world  The ideology of racism is defined on the physical and the psycholgical characteristics of a particular race in our culture. Most Western people do not realise that their values create a social conflict within their community, society or country. Racism disrupts the political and the cultural institutions of a country. The history of racism could be dated back to the era of  colonisation around the world by the European countries (Étienne Balibar, 1998).

The ideology of racism was established by the European countries to dominate other cultures by the means of slavery around the world. Slavery was a common practice throughout human history. The African slaves were brought over by the Europeans to work as slave laborers on the plantations of the colonies in the New World. The African slaves were considered as outcasts in the hierarchy of the human race. Étienne Balibar mentions in his book "Race, Nation, Classe: Les identités ambiguës" that racism coexisted with slavery throughout the history of most civilisations around the world (Étienne Balibar, 1998). The ideology of racism created fear and paranoia by targeting a particular group of people. Racism is a source of xenophobia in our society because most people do not understand other cultures very well. Some people believe that their race or their culture are superior to other cultures around the world. Some people will join a racial movement such as the KKK or the Neo-Nazis to focus their hatred toward a particular group of people.

The ideology of racism was created by most politicians within their government  to preserve the morality of their culture from any internal and external threats to their country. Racism has a long history of extermination for a particular group of people within a country. The Nazis committed the annihilation of the Jewish population in World War II. There have been have several different genocides that have existed such as Rwanda, the former Yugoslavia, and Cambodia.  The extermination of a race can only bring misery and sadness toward the people of that culture. The annihilation of a particular group of people still exists today in the 21st century such as the Darfur region in Sudan. Will racism ever be eliminated from this world?
